“Be the change you wish to see in the world.” ~ Mahatma Gandhi
It all started one morning during cross country practice when my friend and teammate Zach Wolfson struck up a conversation about helping those in need. He told me about his new teen outreach organization, Threads of Care (TOC), while explaining both its motto, “teens helping teens, one thread at a time” and purpose of collecting clothing to donate to those in need. I asked what I could do to help, and Zach invited me to become the first ambassador of my high school. I eagerly accepted! I researched more on the subject later at home, then went to bed with a smile on my face knowing that I was going to make a positive impact on other’s lives.
Over the course of several very successful weeks, Threads of Care entered into partnerships with The Oasis Center, Soles4souls, Room at the Inn, My Life Speaks and others. We also worked to garner sponsorships from other companies wanting to help. Additionally, we are starting chapters of TOC at many local high schools, so more people can help! I am personally leading a chapter at Franklin High School with a fellow ambassador. We want to make our TOC family as large and helpful as possible.
Teens, I encourage you to help in any way possible! You can become an ambassador, and establish a TOC chapter at your school by contacting TOC! You also can donate clothes and other items to TOC to be shared with those in need! We should all take Mahatma Gandhi’s advice to heart and “[be] the change [we] wish to see in the world.”
